Genres: electronic, trip hop, dub, electro dub, rock

Ez3kiel is a French band exploring the music existing somewhere on the border of dub, tip-hop, rock and experimental electro-acoustic music. Their output had a great influence on the European alternative scene and won the musicians a huge number of devoted listeners. Since its set up, Ez3kiel had put great pressure on the “outer musical” forms of communication (CDs' cover art, website, posters and t-shirts). They are, together with High Tone and Brain Damage, the core of the French dub avant-garde artists.

Their first compositions, and initial instrumentarium, oscillated around the fascination with hardcore in the vein of Bad Brains or Fishbone, and the departure of their guitarist/vocalist in 1998, was, paradoxically, a huge contribution to the band's development. 1999 was a breakthrough – that is when they recorded six very promising compositions for the “Equalize-it” album and started an artistic website, created by Yann, which completed Ez3kiel's image. 2000 saw the release of “Handle With Care” – an album full of collaborations with the alternative scene representatives (Yann Tiersen, Sylvestre of Dit Terzi and Sir Jean of Meï Teï Sho), which increased the publics' interest with the band and was a confirmation of their eclectic style.

They released six full-length CDs, which are a record of their musical path and evolution. Constantly seeking out new things and keeping away from patterns or calques, led them through paths filled with dark and heavy sounds from the borders of dub, trip-hop, rock, electronics or even heavy jazz. However, since all these influences have been transformed by their own experiences and views, it is hard to assign them to a certain trend or give a label.

Their performances are one of a kind spectacles, during which music plays an equivalent role together with visualizations and graphics. All these elements together create an incredible audio-visual spectacle – Ezeki3l's trademark. There are many projects which use similar elements during their performances, but the French trio mastered the art of creating one's own identity by perfect synchronization of sound and visuals. They create their own character by using a “melting-pot” of ancient art and contemporary methods; by combining paint and different fabrics with visualizations, projected on two screens, and lights. The main focus is to create a perfect unity and coherence between the audience and the spectacle itself.
